Fretting corrosion is a common form of corrosion encountered in ball bearings. The following points outline preventive measures to guard against fretting corrosion in ball bearings:

 

1. Ensure proper fit.

2. Ensure the bearing housing is properly machined.

3. Ensure the bearing housing complies with dimensional and geometric specifications (even after equipment overhaul).

4. If a clearance fit is used, consider applying an anti-creep corrosion paste or coating to a bearing surface.
